REM-POD / Spirit Pod / REM Master

REM stands for Radiating ElectroMagnetic.

Unlike K2’s and other EMF detectors, REM devices produce EMF and detect disruptions to those fields.

There’s several different names and makers for these devices. Most common we see a REM-POD and Spirit Pod. The REM-POD is manufactured by D.A.S. Distribution’s Pro-Measure division, the Spirit Pod and REM Master are made by GhoSt Augustine’s and sold under their Para4ce brand.

These devices produce an electromagnetic field which when interrupted the device produces sound and light to indicate the amount of field interruption. The more intense the field interruption (closer to the device), the higher the sound pitch and lights flash. These are extremely sensitive devices and can be set off by anything that interrupts the field. This can include things like two way radios.

REM Pods are rooted in a much older, musical device, called a theremin. The theremin was created by a Russian inventor Lev Sergeevich Termen back in the 1920’s. It used 2 “antennas” each radiating it’s own electromagnetic field. One antenna would controls pitch the other controls volume. By moving their hands over each antenna the theremin would be able to produce music. The theremin has been used across the world for many different applications, but most frequently we see it being used for Sci-Fi and Horror Movie music because of the sci-fi like tones it can produce. This is why you will often hear an investigator tell a spirit they can play music on the device.

Over time it was noticed that theremin’s would be heard playing without anyone being near by which resulted in many believing that spirits were interacting with them. The problem is they were musical instruments and pretty large. Over time they began to shrink in size, and become portable. Eventually the components got small enough, paranormal investigators started bring them along on investigations.

Today’s REM devices are extremely portable, they dropped the volume control, but left the pitch control, added LED lights to the device for a visual representation which can be recorded quite easily. They have added features such as temperature change sensors and the electronics required have become small enough that they can be fit into other devices.
