Madison Seminary – Madison OH
Madison Seminary was chartered in 1845 and opened in 1847 as a place for higher education for post high school and college graduates. In 1891 it was purchased by the Women’s relief corp (WRC) and became a home for the wives, widows, and mothers of Ohio military veterans. In 1962 It was taken over by the Ohio Department of Mental Hygiene and corrections. It began housing female honor release inmates who not only lived there, but also staffed the facility. The location also started housing mentally disabled women in hopes they could be educated and rehabilitated. The facility closed around 1975 when the state could no longer afford to operate the facility and sold the facility to the county. In the 1970’s Madison Township leased the building from the county till 1993. In 1998 the county auctioned off the building to a private owner John Cassell who used it mainly for storage, office space which would be leased out. The Madison Historical Society had their offices and operated a museum. When John died in 2009 his grandson Tim Cassell took over the care of the property. Adam Kimmell purchased the property from Tim Cassell in 2016 for the purpose of saving the facility, the history, and to open the location up to Paranormal Investigators.
We would like to thank Adam Kimmell and all the staff of Madison Seminary for doing this and allowing us to perform an investigation. We certainly look forward to returning again in the future.
